The ignored structure just worked as a long-term royal home when Lus I became king in 1861 and married an Italian princess, Maria Pia di Savoia (Queen Maria II). And regal excess is exemplified by the Queen’s Bedroom, where a huge bed embeded in lacquered wood imitating ebony, bronze, and gilded metal is curtained with blue velvet sash. An emphasize is the extravagant Banqueting Hall packed with crystal chandeliers suspended from a fantastically frescoed ceiling.
